Welcome to PowerPoint tutorial! In this article, we’ll walk you through designing a professional radial cycle diagram and animating it using Morph animation in Microsoft PowerPoint. This step-by-step guide includes creating custom shapes, adding images, styling, and applying seamless transitions.
Step 1: Set Up a Blank Slide
- Open PowerPoint and create a new presentation.
- Go to the Slide Layout section and choose Blank to work on a clean slide.
Step 2: Insert SmartArt
- Go to the Insert tab, then under the Illustrations group, click on SmartArt.
- In the SmartArt window, select the Cycle category.
- Choose the Radial Cycle SmartArt and click OK.
- PowerPoint will insert the diagram onto your slide with four outer text boxes by default.
- To add more, click inside the SmartArt text pane and press Enter to create additional boxes (up to six).
Step 3: Convert SmartArt to Shapes
- Click on the SmartArt graphic.
- Right-click and select Convert to Shapes.
- Now, each element is individually editable and movable.
Step 4: Add Background Circle

- Hold Shift while drawing to create a perfect circle.
- Align it with the center using the smart guide lines.
- Fill the shape to match the background and send it to back.
Step 5: Remove Unwanted Shapes
- Double-click a light blue circle. When you see yellow handles, press Delete.
- Repeat for all unwanted shapes.
Step 6: Style the Background Circle
- Select the main circle.
- Set Shape Fill to None.
- Set Shape Outline to Gold, and change Weight to 3 pt.
Step 6: Style the Background Circle
- Select the main circle.
- Set Shape Fill to None.
- Set Shape Outline to Gold, and change Weight to 3 pt.
Step 7: Create Outer and Inner Borders
- Duplicate the main circle (Ctrl + D) and align it.
- Hold Ctrl + Alt + Shift, drag a corner to reduce its size slightly.
- Set Outline Weight to 1 pt.
- Duplicate again, this time increase the size slightly using the same method.
Step 8: Add Center Circle
- Duplicate the center circle again, reduce its size, and fill it with white.
- If there’s a gap between circles, slightly adjust the sizes.
Step 9: Add Small Decorative Circles
- Insert small oval shapes (hold Shift) and position them on the edge of the outer circle.
- Set Fill Color to Gold, Outline to White.
- Duplicate and place them on all four sides, using alignment guides for precision.
Step 10: Add Images to Outer Circles
- Go to Insert > Pictures > This Device to add your image.
- Resize the image while holding Shift.
- Right-click and Send to Back.
- Ungroup the outer shapes.
- Place the image over a circle, select both, go to Shape Format > Merge Shapes > Intersect to crop the image.
- Bring the image to Front.
- Repeat for all outer images.
Step 11: Add Center Text
- Insert a Text Box, type “DAILY”.
- Change font to Montserrat, make it Bold, Uppercase, and set size to 36 pt.
- Center it inside the circle using Align Center and Align Middle.
Step 12: Final Adjustments and Duplication
- Adjust spacing or sizing if text appears too close to the edge.
- Select all elements and move them as needed.
- Duplicate the entire illustration using Ctrl + Shift + Drag.
- Compare variations and choose the preferred one.
- Group the chosen illustration (Ctrl + G) for easier handling.
Step 13: Prepare Slides for Morph Animation
- Duplicate the current slide (Ctrl + D).
- Move the grouped illustration to the left.
- Add a title like "START A DAY" using a large Montserrat Bold, Uppercase, 54 pt font.
- Add a dummy content text box with 16 pt, black 25% lighter text.
Step 14: Create Additional Slides for Animation
- Duplicate the slide 5 more times (6 total).
- Each outer circle image will represent one slide.
Step 15: Animate with Rotations and Titles
On each slide:
- Slide 2:
- Ungroup illustration.
- Increase one circle to 1.94 in width/height.
- Set Position: H = 1.99 in, V = 1.49 in.
- Change title to “WORKING HOUR”.
- Slide 3:
- Rotate illustration to 300°, ungroup, fix image rotation.
- Same size/position. Title: “BREAK TIME”.
- Slide 4:
- Rotate to 600°, update image and title: “WALK TIME”.
- Slide 5:
- Rotate to 900°, title: “OUTSIDE”.
- Slide 6:

- Set Direction to left-to-right or top-to-bottom depending on your design.
Step 17: Resize and Reposition Elements on Slide 2
To create the morph effect:
- Resize the big title or graphic (from Slide 1) so it appears smaller or more centered on Slide 2.
- Reposition shapes (e.g., move icons to the corners or align them in a new layout).
- Keep the same shapes and text boxes—just change their size, color, and position. This is key for Morph to work.
Step 18: Animate with Morph Transition
- Select Slide 2.
- Go to the Transitions tab.
- Choose Morph from the transition list.
- Under Effect Options, set to:
- Objects (for general shapes)
- Or Words/Characters if working with text

Step 19: Add Optional Extra Elements on Slide 2
You can add new elements (icons, graphics, etc.) that fade in as part of the morph.
- Add a new object on Slide 2 that wasn’t on Slide 1.
- During Morph, PowerPoint will automatically fade-in new objects.
